Uses
Holmium Nitrate has specialized uses in ceramics, glass, phosphors and metal halide lamp, and catalyst. It is also used in Yttrium-Iron-Garnet (YIG) and Yttrium-Lanthanum-Fluoride (YLF) solid-state lasers found in microwave equipment (which are in turn found in a variety of medical and dental settings). Holmium(III) nitrate pentahydrate is used to prepare holmium-beta-cyclodextrin complex by reacting with beta- cyclodextrin, which posses potential pharmacological applications. Ho(NO3)3 may be used as a precursor during the synthesis of GdVO4:Ln3+/Yb3+ (Ln3+ = Er3+, Ho3+, Tm3+, Tm3+/Ho3+/Er3+) by chemical co-precipitation technique. It may be used to prepare poly[[tetraaquadi-μ5-fumarato-μ4-fumaratodiholmium(III)] trihydrate].
