  • General Description 1,4-Dibromo-2,5-bis(bromomethyl)benzene exists in two polymorphic forms (I and II), with form II being the thermodynamically stable modification at room temperature. The polymorphs exhibit enantiotropic behavior, transitioning stability at approximately 135–137.5 °C, where form I becomes stable at higher temperatures. Form I has a slightly higher melting point but lower heat of fusion compared to form II, and both structures feature layered molecular arrangements stabilized by intermolecular Br···Br interactions. The high-temperature form (I) can be obtained pure by melt solidification, following Ostwald’s step rule.
