Synthesis, single crystal structure and efficient catalysis for alcohol oxidation of a novel Ru(II) complex with both a N,N,N-tridentate ligand and a pyridinedicarboxylate

10.1016/j.poly.2015.08.047

The research focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and catalytic activity of a novel Ru(II) complex, Ru(pymieb)(pydic), for the oxidation of various alcohols. Key chemicals involved in this research include the newly synthesized N,N,N-tridentate ligand 2-(2-pyridylmethylamino)ethylbenzimidazole (pymaeb), disodium pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate (pydic), and RuCl3, which are used to form the Ru(II) complex. The complex is characterized using NMR, FT-IR, HR-MS, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The study demonstrates that this complex exhibits excellent catalytic activity for the oxidation of various alcohols to carbonyl compounds using tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as the oxidant under mild and solvent-free conditions.
