Manganese nitrate, with the CAS registry number 10377-66-9, is an inorganic compound with formula Mn(NO3)2. This chemical is soluble in water. You should keep it in a cool, dry, dark location and in a tightly sealed container or cylinder. In addition, you must keep it away from incompatible materials, ignition sources and untrained individuals. This chemical has the IUPAC Name of Manganese(2+) dinitrate and EINECS registry number 233-828-8. The substance is white crystalline solid which is denser than water.
Properties: Manganese nitrate may ignite on contact with organic matter. The anhydrous nitrate salt with urea explodes upon heating. Manganese nitrate is solble in water and ethanol. When heating will separate out manganese dioxide with nitrous oxide gas.
Preparation: Manganese nitrate can be prepared from MnO2 and nitrogen dioxide. It can also be prepared by dissolving manganese(II) carbonate in dilute nitric acid.
