This reaction needs HCOONH₄ and Formic acid by heating for 10 hours. The yield is 85 %.

Uses of Tricyclo[3.3.1.1^3,7]decane-1-methanamine,α-methyl-: this chemical is believed to inhibit influenza's viral replication, possibly by preventing the uncoating of the virus's protective shells, which are the envelope and capsid. Besides, it possesses some NMDA antagonistic properties and is used as an antiparkinsonic drug. Moreover, it can react with Formaldehyde to get (+-)-([1]Adamantyl-ethyl)-dimethyl-amin.

This reaction needs HCOOH and H₂O at temperature of 80 °C for 21 hours. The yield is 94 %.
