Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by trichloromethane and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloro-1,2-dimethyl-disilane. This reaction will need reagent PPh₃. The reaction time is 4 hours with reaction temperature of 140 °C. The yield is about 29%.

Uses of Silane,dichloro(dichloromethyl)methyl-: it can be used to produce benzhydryl-dichloro-methyl-silane. It will need reagent AlCl₃.
