Methylchloroisothiazolinone(5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one)is a preservative with antibacterial and antifungal effects within the group of isothiazolinones. It is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and fungi. Its cas register number is 26172-55-4. It also can be called 5-chloro-2-methyl-; 3(2H)-Isothiazolone, 5-chloro-2-methyl-; 4-Isothiazolin-3-one, 5-chloro-2-methyl-; 5-Chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one. It is a liquid and is a cost-effective antimicrobial. It is a high performance biocide for preserving metal working fluids, hydraulic fluids, polymer emulsions, pigment dispersions.
