Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by diethoxyacetic acid ethyl ester with reaction temperature of 80 - 140 ℃. This reaction will need reagent PCl₅ .

Uses of Ethyl chloro(ethoxy)acetate: it can be used to produce benzylhydrazone of ethyl glyoxylate with benzylhydrazine; dihydrochloride. This reaction will need solvent H₂O, dioxane with reaction time of 1 hours. The yield is about 76%.
