4. Preparation of 4,4'-Bipyridine

The 4,4'-Bipyridine can be prepared by 4-chloro-pyridine. This reaction will need reagent NiCl₂, P(Ph)₃, Zn and solvent dimethylformamide. The reaction time is 5 hours with reaction temperature of 82 °C. The yield is about 50%.

5. Uses of 4,4'-Bipyridine

4,4'-Bipyridine can be used to produce [4,4']bipyridyl-2,2'-diyldiamine at temperature of 200 °C. It will need reagent cumene and sodium amide.
