The Ferric fluoride is an organic compound with the formula F₃Fe. The IUPAC name of this chemical is trifluoroiron. With the CAS registry number 7783-50-8, it is also named as Ferric fluoride, anhydrous. The product's category is Inorganics. Preparation: this chemical is prepared by treating virtually any anhydrous iron compound with fluorine. More practically and like most metal fluorides, it is prepared by treating the corresponding chloride with hydrogen fluoride:
FeCl₃ + 3 HF → 2 FeF₃ + 3 HCl

Uses of Ferric fluoride: the primary commercial use of Ferric fluoride is in the production of ceramics. Ferric fluoride has also been shown to catalyze chemoselective addition of cyanide to aldehydes to give the cyanohydrins.
