The Ichthammol, with the CAS registry number 8029-68-3,is also known as Albichthol; Albichtol; Albikhtol; Ammonium bithiolicum. It belongs to the product categories of Organic matters. And it has strong tarry odor and a burning taste. Also it is a complex product obtained by the sulfonation and ammoniation of the distillation product from bituminous schists. It may contain saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, nitrogen bases and thiophene derivatives. This chemical is incompatible with acids, alkaloids, carbonates, hydroxides and mercuric chloride,and it is also incompatible with iodides and salts of iron and lead.It is is used in medicine as a remedy for treating some forms of skin diseases, such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.And it is also commonly used in an ointment in 10% or 20% concentrate as a "drawing salve", also called "black ointment".
