General Description
1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-cyclopentyl-1-nitroso-urea, also known as CCNU or lomustine, is a chemical compound used as a chemotherapy medication to treat certain types of cancer, including brain tumors and Hodgkin's lymphoma. It works by disrupting the growth and reproduction of cancer cells, ultimately leading to their destruction. CCNU is an alkylating agent that forms strong covalent bonds with DNA, preventing its replication and transcription. This ultimately inhibits cancer cell proliferation and leads to cell death. Despite its effectiveness in treating various cancers, CCNU can also have toxic effects on the bone marrow, leading to decreased blood cell production. As with any chemotherapy drug, CCNU should be used under medical supervision and may cause side effects, including nausea, vomiting, and hair loss.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
