General Description

N,N-bis(2-chloroethyl)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-6-carboxamide, also known as BCNO, is a synthetic chemical compound that belongs to the class of nitrogen mustards. It is a derivative of the DNA alkylating agent chlorambucil and is used as a bifunctional cytotoxic agent in cancer chemotherapy. BCNO is designed to cross-link DNA, inhibiting cell division and ultimately leading to cell death. It is primarily used in the treatment of various malignancies, including Hodgkin's lymphoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. However, its use is limited due to its high toxicity and potential for causing significant side effects, such as bone marrow suppression and increased risk of secondary malignancies.
