The condensation of 2-acetylthiophene and 3- and 4-acetylpyridines with formaldehyde and thiols in the presence of alkali in molar ratios of 1:2.2:2:2 at 20-50 deg C led to the production of 1-(α-thienyl)-2,2-bis(butylthiomethyl)-, 1-(α-thienyl)-2,2-bis(cyclohexylthiomethyl)-, 1-(α-thienyl)-2,2-bis(benzylthiomethyl)-, 1-(β-pyridyl)-2,2-bis(butylthiomethyl)-, and 1-(γ-pyridyl)-1-ethanones.
