4,5-diphenylimidazolidine-2-thione (I) added acrylonitrile to give the N-cyanoethyl derivative, II.Hydrolysis of II by alkali gave the carboxyethyl derivative, V, while by acids the imidazo-thiazine derivative, IV was obtained.Compound I gave also N-Mannich bases, VIII.Dehydrogenation of I and desulfurization by various methods were investigated.Oxidation of the S-alkyl and S-aryl derivatives to a sulfoxide, XIV and to sulfones, XV were also tried.
