Benzisoxazole-4,7-quinones 4 are prepared by an improved method using oxidative amination of 1 to give 2, followed by amine exchange to 3 and cyclization with lead tetraacetate.Naphthisoxazole-4,9-quinone 7 is obtained from 5 by an analogous procedure.

3-Methoxybenzisoxazole-4,7-quinones 1 and naphthisoxazole-4,9-quinone 4 react with dimethyl sulfoxides to give sulfoximidoquinones 2 and 5, sulfimidoquinones 8 and 11 respectively as major products.
