Cleavage of acetylenes by complexes of the type W2(OR)6 where OR=OCH(CH3)2 or OC(CH3)2(CF3)

, p. 349 - 352 (2007/10/02)
2 can be prepared by treating W(CCMe3)-(1,2-dimethoxyethane)Cl3 with 3 eq of LiOCHMe2.An analogous propylidyne complex can be prepared by treating W2(OCHMe2)6(py)2 with 3-hexyne.The reaction between W2Cl6(THF)4 and 6 eq of LiOCMe2(CF3) yields W26, which when treated with 2-butyne produces W(CMe) in high yield.W26 does not react with acetonitrile to give a mixture of an ethylidyne complex and a nitrido complex, only what is proposed to be W26(CH3CN)2.W2(OCMe3)4(O2CR)2 (R=CMe3, Ph) can be prepared by adding 2 eq of RCO2H to W2(OCMe3)6, but it does not react with dialkyl acetylenes in 16 h at 60 deg C.
