Pentacarbonylrhenate(1-) adds to the unsymmetrical carbodiimides PhN=C=NR (R = Pri, But) to give metallacycles (not isolated) of the probable structure >- which is retained on monoprotonation.Diprotonation leads to the diaminocarbene complexes >X(X = Cl, ) from which one amine component can be eliminated quantitatively. For R = Pri, this results in i> whereas in the case of R = But, exclusive formation of is observed.A diisocyanide complex - cis-i)(CNPh)> - is obtained from the reaction of the primary adduct with phosgene.
