The 1-(2,2-dicyanovinyl)-, 1-(2,4,4-tricyano-1,3-butadienyl)-, 1,6-bis(dicyanovinyl)-substituted 1,3,5-cycloheptatriene, and their vinylogs have been synthesized by condensation of 1-formyl-, 1-(2-cyano-2-formylvinyl)-, 1,6-diformyl-1,3,5-cycloheptatriene, and their vinylogs, respectively, with malononitrile mediated with TiCl4 as a Lewis acid.
