A number of new di-, tri- and tetra-substituted quinazolin-4(3H)-ones (III) have been synthesized by the reaction of substituted 2-aryloxymethyl-3,1-benzoxazin-4(3H)-ones (I) with 4-amino-4'-nitrodiphenylsulphide followed by oxidation of the resultant 2-aryloxymethyl-3-quinazolin-4(3H)-ones (II) with 30percent hydrogen peroxide in gl. acetic acid.
