The compounds Ru3(CO)12, Ru(CO)5, and Na2Ru(CO)4 were used to obtain new mixed trinuclear clusters by buildup from functional dinuclear FeCo complexes and by metal exchange from cobalt containing trinuclear clusters. While Ru3(CO)12 and Ru(CO)5 always led to product mixtures resulting from redistribution reactions, Na2Ru(CO)4 allowed to replace selectively one Co(CO)3 group by a HRu(CO)3 unit in RP- and RC-bridged trinuclear clusters. The chiral cluster types RPFeRuCo(CO)9H (4, R = Me, Ph, t-Bu), MeCRuCoMCp(CO)8H (11, 12, M = Mo, W), and PhPRuCoWCp(CO)8 (2, from PhPRuCo2(CO)9 and NaWCp(CO)3) have thereby become easily accessible. For 12 preliminary investigations on enantiomer separation were made.
