Usage

General Description

(R)-ALPHA-(3-TRIFLUOROMETHYL-BENZYL)-PROLINE-HCL, also known as liranaftate, is a synthetic organofluorine compound that is used as an antifungal medication. It is a proline derivative with a trifluoromethyl-benzyl group attached, and its hydrochloride salt form is commonly used in pharmaceutical preparations. Liranaftate exerts its antifungal activity by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption leads to increased permeability and ultimately the death of the fungal cells. It is primarily used topically to treat superficial fungal infections such as athlete's foot, but can also be found in combination products for the treatment of other dermatological conditions.
