The pyrimidinium-4-olates of type 1 combine with enol ethers, enamines, ketene acetals, 1,4-dihydro-1,4-epoxynaphthalene, dimethyl fumarate, or dimethyl maleate to produce 2,6-diazabicyclooctane-3,5-diones 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 17-19, whereas the reaction
