GSK1265744, also known as Cabotegravir (sodium salt), is an antiretroviral medication used for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS. It belongs to the integrase inhibitor class of drugs, which work by blocking the action of an enzyme called integrase that HIV uses to insert its viral DNA into the DNA of the cell it has infected. It is available in both oral and injectable forms and, combined with other drugs, is designed to reduce the amount of HIV in the body to undetectable levels. It is developed by the pharmaceutical company ViiV Healthcare, a subsidiary of GlaxoSmithKline.
