1,3,4,5-Tetrahydro-5-acetyl-4-phenyl-1-(phenylmethyl)-2H-1,5-benzodiazepin-2-one, also known as tetrazepam, is a benzodiazepine derivative with sedative and muscle relaxant properties. It works by enhancing the inhibitory effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, leading to a decrease in neuronal excitability. Tetrazepam is commonly used to treat muscle spasticity and spasm, as well as anxiety and tension. However, it has been associated with rare cases of severe liver injury, and its use should be closely monitored and limited to cases where other treatments have been ineffective.
