Sixteen reactions of the preparation of symmetric (R1 = R2, R3 = R4) acetylene 1,4-diols have been studied (Fig. 1).A significant effect of the structure of initial ketones on the posibility of obtaining the diols has been found.Strong donor as well as strong acceptor substituents make the reaction of diol synthesis impossible.It has been found that for R3 = R4 = i-C4H9, neo-C5H11 it is necessary for the synthesis to keep slight acetylene gauge pressure.
