The synthesis of 7,7-bis(trimethylsilyl)cyclopropabenzene (2) from cyclopropabenzene (1) is reported.The oxidative addition of 2 to tris(ethene)nickel(0) (3) in the presence of chelating ligands occurs with insertion of the nickel atom into the C-C-single bond of the cyclopropabenzene three-membered ring to give nickelacyclobutabenzene derivatives 4.Ligand exchange of the tetramethylethylenediamine in 4a by phosphorus ligands occurs smoothly to give nickelacyclobutabenzene species 5. - An X-ray structure analysis of 4a was performed.
