6-(4-Alkylphenyl)- and 6-(4-alkoxyphenyl)-3-cyano-2-pyridones were obtained by the cyclization of 4-(4-alkylphenyl)- and 4-(4-alkoxyphenyl) oxidovinyl ketone salts with cyanoacetamide; the products were converted into 6-(4-alkylphenyl)- and 6-(4-alkoxyphe
