A method for preventing a plant such as vegetables, corn, cotton, rice, sugar beet or soybean from damage by insect pest after germination of the plant which comprises steps of treating seeds of the plant with a composition containing a (N''-methyl)benzoylurea compound represented by the formula (I): wherein R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or the like, R2 denotes a halogen atom or the like, R3 denotes a halogen atom, an optionally halogenated C1-C4 alkyl group, or the like, and sowing the treated seeds, followed by cultivation.
