Desulfurization of the n-butylthiomethylene ketone 6 with Raney nickel yields a mixture of trans- and cis-stereoisomers 7 and 8, the conformations of which are 7A and 8B, respectively.While the ketone 7 gives rapidly and quantitatively the oximes 9, the isomers 8 reacts much more slowly to a mixture of 9 and 10.A detailed analysis of the configuration and conformation of the ketones 7 and 8 as well as the oxmies 9 and 10 is given.
