The utility of the tert-butyldiphenylsilyl group for protecting primary amines is explored.These derivatives are notably stable to chromatography, basic and hydrolitic reagents, as well as alkylating and acylating reagents.They are smoothly cleaved by mild acid and pyridine-HF.
