7-Benzylidene-4-phenyl-3-cyano-2-oxo- and 7-benzylidene-4-phenyl-3-cyano-2-thioxo-2,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-pyrindines were obtained by the reaction of 2,5-dibenzylidenecyclopentanone with cyanoacetamide and cyanothioacetamide. 2-Thioxo-1H-pyrindine was used in the synthesis of substituted 3-aminothienopyrindines and of condensed compounds based on them.
