The reaction of 1,2-bis(3,5-dichloro-2-hydroxybenzamido)ethane (H4chbae) with Ru(PPh3)3Cl2 yielded (RuIV(chbae)(PPh3)2> which in turn gave IV(chbae)(PPh3)(py)> (py = pyridine) upon treatment with pyridine; the IV(chbae)(PPh3)(py)> complex has been characterized by magnetic susceptibility measurement (μeff = 3.08 μB) and X-ray crystallography and found to catalyse the epoxidation of alkenes in the presence of iodosylbenzene.
