Three new steroidal glycosides, periplosides A, B and C, among which periploside A exhibited anticomplementary activity, have been isolated from Periploca sepium root-barks. The structures of periplosides A, B and C have been elucidated as shown in formulas 1, 2 and 3, respectively, on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence.
