Reactions between 1-(2-methoxy-4-hydroxybenzylidene)-4-phenyl-thiosemicarbazone (H2V.P.T.S.), and some hydrated salts of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Cd(II) give chelates of the types M(HL)Ac and M(HL)2*2H2O .The metal chelates were characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductivities, magnetic moments and spectra (IR, visible).IR spectra show that the ligand acts in a bidentate manner and coordinates through (C=N) and (C-S) groups. The stereochemistry of the metal chelates is discussed with the help of magnetic and spectroscopic measurements.Spectral studies in solution show that the ligand could be used for the microdetermination of Cu(II) ion within a certain concentration range. Also, the apparent formation constant for the system, Cu(II) - H2V.P.T.S, is calculated.
