While the primary photochemical process for 5-C5H5)Fe(CO)(PPh3)COMe> is exclusive loss of carbon monoxide to generate 5-C5H5)Fe(CO)(PPh3)Me>, that for 5-C5Me5)Fe(CO)(PPh3)COMe> is exclusive loss of triphenylphosph
C5Me5Fe(CO)2 L4.

In recognition of the limited petroleum reserves of the world, interest has grown in the conversion of coal to a synthetic fuel. An experiment has been carried out on reducing CO in a cationic iron carbonyl complex with the use of NaBH//4. The studies effected using neutral transition-metal hydrides indicate that they are less efficient than NaBH//4, especially in the reduction of hydroxymethyl to methyl. 100 Refs.

The electron-rich, thermally stable σ-methyl complexes [FeIICp*(CO)(P)(CH3)] (P = η1-dppe, 1) and [FeIICp*P2(CH3)] (P = P(OMe)3, 5, or P2 = η2-dppe, 6) have
