Chemical investigation of Curculigo capitulata yielded two new norlignans, (+)-(1R,2S)- and (-)-(1S,2S)-1-O-butylnyasicosides (1, 2), and the known nyasicoside (3) from the BuOH-soluble fraction of the rhizomes. An alternative study devoid of n-BuOH yielded two additional novel norlignans, 3''-dehydroxynyasiceside (4) and 1-O-methylnyasicoside (5), in addition to 3. The pharmacological studies indicated that 1 and 3 possessed potent activity against ouabain-induced arrhythmia in the heart preparations of guinea pig.
