Beta-Alanine, N-[(2-propenyloxy)carbonyl]-, also known as Z-β-Ala-OH, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C8H13NO4. It is a derivative of β-alanine, an amino acid, where the amino group is protected by a carbobenzyloxy (Cbz) group. b-Alanine, N-[(2-propenyloxy)carbonyl]- is widely used in peptide synthesis as a building block, particularly in solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS), to protect the amino group of β-alanine from unwanted side reactions. The Cbz group can be removed under mild acidic conditions, allowing for the subsequent coupling of other amino acids or functional groups. Z-β-Ala-OH is also used in the study of β-alanine-containing peptides and their biological activities.
