It is a colorless, highly reactive, and pyrophoric liquid, which means it can spontaneously ignite upon contact with air. Lithium, 1-butynyl- is an important reagent in organic synthesis, particularly in the formation of carbon-carbon bonds through the use of the Sonogashira coupling reaction.
