Copper(I) and Nickel(II) Complexes of Neutral Bidentate Schiff Bases

Preparation and properties of the copper(I) and nickel(II) complexes of the neutral bidentate schiff bases N,N'-bis(benzaldimine)ethylenediamine(BBE) and N,N'-bis(acetophenoneimine)ethylenediamine (BAPE) are described.The complexes prepared are of the types: (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv), where, X = Cl(-), I(-); L = BBE, BAPE; L' = py, Ph3P; APE = C6H5(CH3)C=N CH2 CH2NH2 and (H)APEACAC = C6H5(CH3)C=NCH2CH2N=C(CH3)CHC(CH3)OH (the schiff base derived by the condensation of C6H5(CH3)C=NCH2CH2NH2 with acetylacetone).Reaction of CuI with BAPE under the atmosphere of carbon, monoxide and in the presence of NaBPh4 in THF affords the complex BPh4.The complexes have been characterized by the electronic and infrared spectra, magnetic susceptibilities, conductivity data and elemental analyses.
