Synthesis and Antiviral Activity of 4-(Arylhydrazono)-3-methyl-1-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)-2-pyrazolin-5-ones

Fifteen title compounds (17-31) have been synthesised by the reaction of 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid hydrazide with ethyl 2,3-dioxobutyrate-2-arylhydrazones (2-16) or by diazo-coupling of 3-methyl-1-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)-2-pyrazolin-5-one (1) with aryldiazonium chlorides.Their structures have been established on the basis of IR and PMR spectra.Chemical studies and spectral data indicate that compounds 17-31 exist in the hydrazone form.All the compounds have been tested against the tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and Ranikhet disease virus (RDV).Some of them show significant activity against these viruses.
