Usage

General Description

The chemical {[2-(2,4-dioxo-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-1(2H)-yl)ethoxy]methyl}phosphonic acid, also known by the trade name Alendronic acid, is a bisphosphonate medication used to treat osteoporosis and Paget's disease of bone. It works by inhibiting the breakdown of bone, thereby increasing bone density and reducing the risk of fractures. The compound is a potent inhibitor of osteoclastic bone resorption and is often prescribed in the form of oral tablets or injections. It is also used in the treatment of hypercalcemia and bone metastasis.
