A new, convergent synthesis of O-2-isocephems is reported.Rhodium carbenoid insertion of α-diazo-β-ketoesters into the N-H bond of a preformed β-lactam, followed by cyclization of the resulting enol-alcohols by Mitsunobu reaction gives the title compounds
