The 1,2,3-diazaphosphole P=C(H)C(Me)=NNMe (LA) and the 1,2,4,3-triazaphospholes P=NC(Ph)=NNMe (LB) and P=NN(Me)C(Me)=N (LC) react with the halo-bridged dimers [MX2(PEt3)]2 (M = PtII, PdII) to afford a variety of products with MX2(PEt3)L (L = di- or triazaphosphole) stoichiometry. With [PdCl2(PEt3)]2 these azaphospholes produce trans-[PdCl2(PEt3)L] with σ-N-bonded L. From [PtBr2(PEt3)]2 is obtained [PtBr2(PEt3)L] as a mixture of the cis σ-N? coordination isomer with lesser amounts of the trans σ-N isomer. These azaphospholes all afford different products with [PtCl2(PEt3)]2; the diazaphosphole LA produces mononuclear cis-[PtCl2(PEt3)LA] (σ-P bound) whereas the triazaphospholes LB and LC produce dinuclear species that have symmetric and asymmetric structures, respectively. The new air-sensitive complexes have been principally characterized by a combination of 1H, 31P, and 195Pt NMR solution spectroscopy.
