MNDO calculations reveal that two diastereomeric conformations a and b of low energy exist for each of the three isomeric cis-bicyclononynes (1-3).For the experimental proof, the highly strained bicyclic systems, generated by the selenadiazole method or by dehydrobromination, are investigated by 1H- and 13C-NMR measurements concerning the population of the conformers and their mutual interconversion by inversion of the eight-membered rings.
