Dihydrobenzofurans 4a-c and g-j were synthesized from 2-acetyl-1,4-benzoquinone (1) and β-diketones 2a-c and g-j and dehydrated to benzofurans 5a-i.The structure of 5d was examined by X-ray analysis.Reaction of quinone 9 and diketone 2g yielded directly fluorinated benzofurans 11a and 12b.The abnormal 1H-NMR spectra of benzofurans 5d, f and 11a are discussed.Formation of ketone hydrates 12a, b and 13 was detected.
