Depending on the reaction temperature, the reaction of 2,3-dihydro-3-thioxo-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-ones 1 with 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene and picryl chloride afforded 3-(2,4-dinitrophenylthio)-4,5-dihydro-6-phenyl-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one (2) and 2-substituted 6,8-dinitro-3H-1,2,4-triazinobenzothiazol-3-ones 3.
