The lithium derivatives of optically pure alkyl p-tolyl sulphoxides, having both the R and S absolute configurations at the sulphur atom, have been condensed with the esters of mono- and poly-fluorocarboxylic acids to give several mono- and poly-fluoro ketones with a chiral sulphinyl substituent.The compounds having an alkyl residue on the α or α' position of the ketone group have also been obtained through alkylation of the di-, or mono-anion of the unsubstituted terms.Products chiral only at the sulphur atom, at the sulphur and the fluorinated carbon atom, or at the sulphur and the sulphinyl-substituted carbon have been obtained as single pure enantiomers.
