Abstract: Chitosan, a biodegradable green catalyst, was found to be an impressive system for one-pot four-component reaction of different aldehydes, dimedone, β‐ketoesters or acetoacetanilide, and ammonium acetate leading to 1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives via Hantzsch-type condensation under solvent-free condition. This methodology produces diverse superiorities such as operational simplicity, short reaction time, satisfied yield and recyclable catalyst. In this work, we attempted to develop several modifications for the classical Hantzsch conversion to report a novel eco-friendly method that is free from previously reported disadvantages. The preparation of photo enhanced and switchable (on/off mode) sulfonated magnetic carbon quantum dots was investigated in the present work. First, the as-synthesized carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were easily separated using a magnet (instead of using a dial
Catalyst-free, Knoevenagel-Michael addition reaction of dimedone under microwave irradiation: An efficient one-pot synthesis of polyhydroquinoline derivatives
Saha,Luireingam,Merry,Pal
, p. 941 - 944 (2013)
Present investigation reports a concise and efficient protocol for the synthesis of polyhydroquinoline derivatives through coupling of four different components viz. aromatic aldehydes, dimedone, ethyl acetoacetate or ethyl cyanoacetate, and ammonium acetate. The same phenomenon can be observed using arylmethylene bis(3-hydroxy-2-cyclohexene-1-ones), ethyl acetoacetate, and ammonium acetate in one pot under microwave irradiation. The key advantages of the given protocol include short reaction time, high yields, and simple work-up and purification procedure. The present method also allows us to synthesize highly functionalized title compounds from simple and readily available starting materials.

In this study, three eco-friendly, efficient, and convenient protocols have been reported for one-pot synthesis of 2,4,6-triaryl pyridine, 2-amino-3-cyanopyridine, and polyhydroquinoline derivatives using salicylic acid as a catalyst under solvent-free condition. The reported protocols offer several significant advantages such as the application of a nontoxic, neutral, and cheap catalyst, environmentally friendly conditions, the easy isolation of products by filtering, short reaction times, simple methodology, and good yields.

A mild, concise, and efficient protocol for the synthesis of polyhydroquinoline via four component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, dimedone, ethyl acetoacetate or ethyl cyanoacetate, and ammonium acetate using Pd-nanoparticles is described. The same phenomenon was observed in the case of arylmethylene bis(3-hydroxy-2-cyclohexene-1-ones), ethyl acetoacetate, ammonium acetate, and Pd-nanoparticles in one-pot. The present method also allows us to synthesize highly functionalized title compounds from simple and readily available inputs.
