Irradiation of 1-alkyl-4,6-diaryl-2(1H)-pyrimidinones 1 in the presence of aliphatic amines gave the C-C-bonded 1:1 adducts and/or the reduced dihydropyrimidinones, while irradiation of 1 in the presence of aromatic amines gave the 1:1 adducts exclusively.The photoadditions of amines to 1 can be explained by a sequential electron/proton transfer mechanism.
